How DiaPure® works

GREEN TECKNOLOGY AND NUTRIENT CYCLING

DiaPure® is a regenerable phosphorus treatment technology that combines high removal efficiency, stable hydraulics and the ability to recover phosphorus as a plant nutrient. The technology is based on a specially developed porous filter material that operates in three steps.

1. Capture P

The granulate binds phosphorus effectively from the water flow

DiaPure® filter material consists of porous granules of natural diatomite, coated with iron oxides (ferrihydrite). As wastewater or drainage water passes through the filter, phosphorus is chemically bound to the large reactive surface of the granules.

The material’s high porosity (approx. 80%) allows it to handle both low and high flow rates without clogging, while achieving very high phosphorus removal even under varying loads. The technology is suitable for everything from household wastewater to stormwater, agricultural drainage and industrial process water.

2. Regenerate

Phosphorus is released and the filter material is restored

Unlike traditional single-use filters, DiaPure® can be regenerated. During regeneration, the bound phosphorus is released from the surface of the granules, restoring the material’s treatment capacity.

This means the same filter material can be used over a long period, maintaining performance without frequent replacement. The result is lower resource consumption, less waste and stable treatment over many years.

3. Return Nutrients

Captured phosphorus becomes a high-value fertiliser

The phosphorus extracted during regeneration is recovered as a solid phosphate salt that can be used as a fertiliser. This closes the loop: phosphorus that would otherwise contribute to eutrophication is instead returned to agriculture.

DiaPure® therefore contributes not only to cleaner water, but also to a more circular and resource-efficient nutrient system.

Certifiering och regelefterlevnad

DiaPure® is developed to meet European requirements for water treatment products. The filter material and system solutions are designed with a focus on safety, performance and traceability.
Work on CE marking in accordance with relevant harmonised standards is ongoing and forms part of our process towards commercial and industrial deployment within the EU.

Why DiaPure® compared to traditional phosphorus filters?

  • High hydraulic capacity – allows high flow rates without clogging
  • Long service life – regenerable material instead of frequent filter replacement
  • Stable performance over time – works under varying loads
  • Circular solution – phosphorus is recovered instead of being disposed of
  • Wide applicability – on-site wastewater, stormwater, agriculture, wetlands and process water
