From phosphorus leakage to nutrient recovery – results from FosLav

DiaPure has been a partner in the Danish-funded project “FosLav” (Compact filter systems for phosphorus in drainage water from high- and lowland soils). Rewetting of lowland soils is an important climate mitigation measure to reduce emissions of CO₂ and other climate gases. Unfortunately, lowland rewetting causes the discharge of phosphorus, leading to eutrophication of downstream waters. Filters inserted into drainage pathways from lowland areas can prevent the leakage of phosphorus.

DiaPure has contributed to the project through filter design, the supply of filter materials, participation in monitoring filter performance, and the development and testing of filter regeneration technology. The filters efficiently reduce phosphorus concentrations to below eutrophication thresholds.
